TITLE : ENERGY : IN THE EVE OF MODERN AGE

Abstract: Energy is the most important issue of our time. Energy is the key input in economic growth and there is a close link between the availability of energy and the growth of a nation. This study presents simply an explanation of importance of energy and the sources of energy. For this purpose renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, water, biomass, nuclear has been used. The energy consumption pattern of India 2016 is also given to explain the consumption of different sources of energy. Income of a country can be raised with the expansion of the power sector. It also help to achieve economic self sufficiency. In 2015 still about 2.8 billion people have no access to modern energy services and over 1.1 billion do not have electricity. Furthermore, around 4.3 million people are dying prematurely every year due to indoor pollution resulting from cooking and heating with unsustainable fuels. India was the third top coal producer in 2015 with 283.9 Mtoe (7.4% global share). Nearly 80% of total electricity generated (utility and captive) in India is from coal. India was the fourth top net crude oil (including crude oil products) importer of 163 Mt in 2015. India has 4.561 million barrels per day (5.7% of the world) crude oil refinery capacity which is ranked 4th globally.
